It’s equally as effective as 10% benzoyl peroxide medications, but it causes a lot less dryness and irritation. You should be able to find it fairly easily at Walmart or a drug store. Pair it with a gentle oil-free moisturizer (make sure you use an SPF-15 one during the day) and you should be good to go.

For me,

at first i started using benzoyl peroxide and it worked really good, for me, my mom, and my brother.
but then after about three weeks or so, we woke up and our faces were SWOLLEN. it was soo bad, i had to stay home from school. T_T

& salicylic acid works better for me.
- the only reason you have ‘ more pimples ‘ is because the acid makes the pimples under your skin come up, so the puss or whatever inside it can come out, to make the skin healthy, inside and out.
unlike proactive, which makes your pimples go UNDER your skin. <–(which is really really bad)

if i were you, i’d use sali. acid on your whole face then put a small amount of benz. on the spots that break out.

=)Benzoyl Peroxide made my face clearer faster, but after I applied alot over a week, my face started drying out, my eye swole up, my neck and jaw line got rashes. I just have to use Benzoyl Perozixe Products in VERY MODERATE AMOUNTS and dab it ONLY on the problem areas. Salicylic Acid takes a while to be affective in my opinion so I don’t use it very often. It really depends on the skin.
A lot of people swear by salicylic acid but it never worked very well for me. My acne started getting better after I used benzoyl peroxide. And yes, it does dry your skin but the whole point is, it dries your pimple too so you get rid of it faster. I don’t really moisturize my acne areas, but i moisturize around my eyes and mouth. Benzoyl peroxide should only be used moderately, drying the skin of your whole face might make it worse. My skin dries out a lot, and it peels every few weeks but i ofund that as it peels it lightens my scarrings and reveals newer skin. The problem with my face is that it is dry and oily at the same time. I always try to keep it clean using cleanser and applying benzoyl peroxide in problem areas. I moisturize my whole face when I have less breakouts and make sure that the moisturizes is non-comedogenic. I also drink vitamin b5 and i think it helped a lot. My face has been much better since.
And I agree, home remedies didn’t work for me at all. For benzoyl peroxide I recommend Oxy or Panoxyl
Good luck.

It depends on your skin type. It works for some people, for others it dries the skin out way too much. You should just try it out and see for yourself.
Answer mine?
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091103175501AA8g2nvyes is does benzoyl peroxide is very good on your skin and will clear breakouts thats what i did and i saw very great results if you stick to it you will see changes! ALways use a moisturizer about 15 minutes after you use benzoyl peroxide or it WILL dry out your skin!I use proactive and it seems to work for me. You just have to make sure to stick to the program. The only problem is that for some people it dries out their skin. But the lady at the proactive kiosk told me if you have sensitive skin they have a milder cleanser, and that BP is the best chemical in acne creams and cleansers to tru;ly get rid of acne.Different acne treatments work differently for different people

What the skin needs is a product that clears pores and kills bacteria, thus preventing hair follicles from clogging and turning into acne. This is what you should be looking for if you want to get rid of those ugly acne.

Before trying any treatment, I suggest you read this informational source that listed the most effective acne treatments available:

http://www.17acnetreatments.com

P.S. I also know someone who used to suffer from severe acne for 14 YEARS and finally got rid of it completely. She’s sharing her story at her site:

http://www.my-acne-solution.com/clicks/clickthrough.html?a=150901

Maybe you could learn from her inspirational story.

Good luck.

It’s pretty good, and because your doctor prescribed it it’ll be a lot better than the stuff they give over the counter. Alone I don’t know how long it will take, it depends on your skin and the product you are using. It may take weeks to see results and a couple months to clear up, but then again it depends really on your acne situation.

Be warned though, most people are sensitive to benzoyl peroxide, so don’t be shocked if it burns or starts drying out your skin. You have to keep putting it on, and don’t go over the recommended amount. In time your skin should get used to it, and then you’ll see clear skin.Anyhow, don’t go out and buy those "get rid of your acne in one day" pills that you can find anywhere online, they just don’t work and you will spend your money for nothing.

Why not? Well, because it takes time to get rid of acne and you will need at least one week to see any noticeable results. There is absolutely no way to treat your acne in only one day.

You may use an over-the-counter treatment that contain substances such as benzoyl peroxide (gel or cream) or salicyclic acid. Start with the lowest strength and apply once a day about half an hour after washing. Never use more than 5 percent strength without consulting a physician.

Don’t pop, pick, scratch, or squeeze your pimples. This may cause infection and scarring.

thanks bye tc ..

My skin is supper greasy

and I don’t know if this goes for every one but last night I used 10% benxoyl peroxide and I woke up and it looked like I had sunburn!!! ( it was my frist time) I would only use it everyother dayit’s best to get a lower percentage of benzoyl peroxide. it’s proven that 2% benzoyl peroxide has the same effect as 10%, except it dries out the skin less.

so you should get a lower percentage because it’s still as effecive. but that 10% will work okay. it may just dry it out more. so don’t use it more than 2 times a dayIf you were to go to a dermatologist, they would tell you that Bnzoyl Peroxide will dry out your skin and it’s kinda harsh for sensitive. I don’t think I would put something with 10% of it on my skin, usually creams haave like 1-5% because it’s so strong. Salicylic acid is best for sensitive skin. And if you do use the benzoyl stuff, be sure you exfoliate and moisurize really really well. Because it will make your skin all flaky.10% benzoyl peroxide cream might dry out your skin(yes I know it’s a cream), your face’ll feel really tight, and if your skin is somewhat delicate, you’ll look like you had a bad sunburn. I’d say use it as a spot treatment

I never had full blown acne, but I did have a lot of pimples on my forehead and chin. I tried using all of the in store stuff, but nothing worked, so I decided to try Proactiv…im not going to lie it worked soooo well! It starts off looking like it is getting worse, but it actually does get a bit worse before it gets better and my skin has never broken out like it did before Proactiv! I recommend it to everyone and I really think you should try it! Just make sure to wash ur face every morning and night and it will be better in no time Yes, to some extent. It is a drying agent, and acne is caused by bacteria. I went to my doctor to help with acne and she prescribed oral antibiotics and 10%(which is a lot) Benzol Peroxide gel. My skin cleared up very nicely. So this worked in combination, but I would suggest finding a way to kill the bacteria as well as the Benzol. Call your doctor and ask for an appointment or a recommendation.
