Acne medications that work besides acutane?
December 29, 2008
Definitely keep going with the tazorac & solodyn. You could see greater improvement at the 12-week mark. It really does take that long for a medication like tazorac to work because of how it makes your skin turn over faster. You have to give it that extra amount of time to get out all the blemishes that are "cooking".
Let me add that Accutane is a serious medication and that the side effects of mood changes are very real.

After coming off acne medication?
December 26, 2008
Yes. Your given that because you have a bacterial infection underneath the skin. Your acne medicine is antibiotics, and the infection it's clearing up is not completely gone yet so once you stop taking the pills, the infection will return again.
I'm on the same medication and now, my doctor is slowly starting to ween me off of it after about 7 months. So go in for the check ups with your doctor and continue to use as he/she directs you to.

Should i ask my doctor for birth control pills or medication for acne?
December 26, 2008
I used to have bad acne
Store products never seem to work
my brother used medication for his and cleared up abit
all i did was wash my face with soap and my face cleared up
also it could be caused because you parents had acne
don't worry, when you get older they seem to dull down
most people go for proactive
i've never used itIf you don't need to be on birth control then don't get on it.
There are plenty of medications out there that your doctor can prescribe you that are specifically for acne. What they gave your brother might not be strong enough for you. (I wouldn't suggest using your brothers medication either).
They may want to try Retin A on you to start with or even some antibiotics and if that doesn't work they'll move on to the really strong stuff like Accutane (which works wonders by the way - but has some serious side effects).
I had aweful acne when I was in my teens and I tried all kinds of stuff. Some worked better then others and some didn't work at all. You just have to keep trying different things until you find something that works great and stick with it.
Just talk to your doctor and see what they can do for you. Good luck!Acne ussually clears up - babies are for life. Go for the birth control.
If you do have bad acne try cutting down on shop shelf solutions and jus use plain water with additive free soap, you should notice results fairly quickly.Honestly,I think u should avoid to consider taking birth control pills as a resort to ur acne. There's lots things u have to consider since the birth contol pills itself would not work for ur acne and most importantly,u could pose danger to ur health. When it comes to acne, mexternal medication works best for this kind of problem. There's no need for u to get oral antibiotics since it could make ur skin worse if u don't know what ur taking.I would recommend u to use these homemade remedies since any skincare products is not an option for u.Remedies are effective yet gentle to ur skin so I think u might try these since it work wonders on my skin.
Honey Paste-Another easy and effective homemade acne treatment is to make a paste of honey with cinnamon and nutmeg. All you need is about one teaspoon of cinnamon powder and about half of it nutmeg powder. Add some honey to make enough paste to cover the inflammed area completely. Just lie down as honey may dribble down. Wait for 10 to 15 minutes and wash with luke warm water.
Orange peel-Homemade Acne Treatment using Orange peel has been found very effective. Pound the orange peel with water on a piece of stone and apply to acne affected areas.
Basil tea-Basil tea like neem is effective in killing bacteria. Drinking it twice a day can do wonders to the skin.
Coconut Oil-Coconut oil is a cheap and easily available acne solution. Regular use of coconut oil over a period of time helps to clear your skin.
Lemon Juice-A simple remedy at home for acne: Apply lemon juice regularly to reduce pimples and acne. This has proven beneficial results.
Well, these are the remedies that work gentle on ur skin while getting rid of acne.Hope this helps and great skin wishes.
P/s:Do avoid Accutane since it could pose risk to ur health. There's lots of side effects when ur takin some pills orally.Do try these homemade remedies I suggest u.It would be the best for ur skin.Plus,do seek help from a dermatologist since ur derm could prescribed u the best medication if u need to.Hope this helps:-)If you're not sexually active, and want long term-effect, then maybe you can try roaccutane. A 6-month regimen sets you against acne for life. However, you can't get pregnant while you're at it and for a few months after, so if you're in the reproductive age group and is sexually active, you should get both.

Should i ask my doctor for birth control pills or medication for acne?
December 26, 2008
Maybe both. Using your brothers didnt work because most acne meds take at least a couple months, if not 3-6 months to work. Some birth control pills are good for skin such as yaz or yasmine. you can take both at the same time though, and yet with some types of acne meds you are required to go on the pill so you cant get pregnant while taking them. the doctor will discuss whther you need one or the other or both with you, just go in and ask.Ask your doctor for a tablet and cream medication for acne.
I'm using a cream from the doctor called Retin-A and you put it on the acne infected area before you go to bed and it peels your skin a little bit and it's really great. So if you have bad acne, I would urge you to try and ask for that.

Is temporary morning blindness a common side effect of acne medication?
December 23, 2008
If you are on Accutane, you MUST tell your dad / mom whom will alert your doctor without delay.
When you were prescribed this medication, you (or your parents if you're a minor) agreed to a written contract with the doctor about all these side effects. This is nothing to take lightly at all–and hardly is funny if you're saying that you're rather be blind but with a clear face.
I am sorry to say that you're not mature enough to take this medication, whatever it is, because you can't follow simple, and I repeat, simple instructions.
If you are on something else, you still need to let the doctor know.

Can you skin become immune to prescribed acne medication?
December 11, 2008
I've been wondering about this sort of thing. For me, it's dandruff; it just won't go away
With acne, usually it's greasy skin or grease/dirt from hair getting into your pores. How often do you wash your face?

How do you treat acne started by medication?

The Body Shop sell an excellent Tea Tree Facewash, it works really well, has only natural ingredients, does not strip the skin like many remedies and has the added advantage that it has not been tested on animals.

Im in desperate need of help. im in so much pain from this acne medication..?
December 11, 2008
^^^ Definatley don`t use proactive.
It`ll make everything so much worse.
But I know your pain. =(
Okay, this is what you should do.
You have to take breaks.
For example, only use the gel at night when you`re going to sleep.
Then in the morning, wash your face & apply a moisturizing cream for sensitive dry skin.
At night, wash your face again & apply the cream.
The next morning wash your face & apply the cream.
Then at night, wash your face & apply the gel.
Or just mix the routine up and do what works for your skin.Hello,
First, Tretinoin Cream IS Retin-A, and it is a very serious Drug…yes, Drug, for it is by presctiption only. In my youth, and during hormonal changes as I matured, I used it for acne. It will make break-outs worse for a few weeks, and then the acne will usually disappear. You must use it as the Doctor prescribed, either lightly once or twice a day, and use a moisturizer that he/she recommends. You must use it EVERY day, if that is what the Dr. prescribed, for it is a medication that gets in your system with constant use, and the results can be fabulous!
Now if I remember right, the clindamyacin is an Antibiotic for acne, also by prescription only. Have you talked with your Dermatologist about the face wash? You might need a more gentle cleanser, and the right moisturizer with sunscreen. Most Dermatologists have their own expensive brand available at their office, or ask for a less-expensive brand they recommend, something you can find at Walgreen's or the Supermarket.
You need to be extra-gentle with your skin now, Does he/she know you are using the benzoyl peroxide in addition to the 2 prescriptions? You might be over-doing it. Remember, with the 2 prescriptions, your symptoms will always get worse before they get better. I would use a moisturizer with sunscreen, and avoid direct sunlight & tanning beds, for sun will make it worse, even cause permenant damage. I learned the hard way. Read all the Information that comes with the prescriptions!!!
When you are at a Walgreen's, CVS, whichever pharmacy, don't hesitate to go talk to the Pharmacist! They are professionals, know a lot, and might have some very good recommendations. There is no substitute for seeing the dermatologist, and a follow-up visit after a few weeks is always a good idea, especially since you are in so much pain and peeling!! Some of it is just part of the process of healing, but ask the Doctor, Please!!!
You could also ask about taking an antibiotic Pill, instead of the gel. If you are a Female, don't forget to ask if an antibiotic pill is likely to give you a yeast infection, in which case you could ask for 2 - Diflucan pills, 1 to take at the beginning of antibiotic pill use, and the second after 7-10 days if you feel a yeast infection coming on. Talk to the Doctor about it all !!!
Retin-A has the added benefit of slightly reducing wrinkles, especially around the eyes and throat. Recently, though, a friend of mine, who is studying to be an estetician (doing facials & such), informed me that recent studies indicate that Retin-A thins the skin. She won't use it, but I still do. If you are young, or older, and dealing with that horrible acne, and with the help of your Dr., medicine, moisturizer, and time, you can discover a fresh, clear face, & you will feel so much more confident and happy!
This is only my experience, and I am not a doctor! Go see yours!
Happy Holidays, and you best call the Dr. tomorrow before they go on vacation!

Does anyone know anything that works really good for acne?seems like any medication my son trys does not work.?
December 10, 2008
I had EXTREMELY bad acne, and all topical creams I tried didn’t work. I went to a dermatologist and he said it’s extremely severe and he prescribed me Roaccutane. Honestly, it was a life saver. It has minor side effects, and they’re usually perceived by people as bad, but they’re not.
If it’s really bad take him to a dermatologist now before he gets scarring, acne should be treated as disease, it ruins self esteem etc.
If it’s more minor, you could take him to your doctor and get Eryacne, that’s by prescription but it’s good. But like I said, if its serious, the best thing is Roaccutane from a dermatologist, cause home remedies will never cure something serious.Home remedies generally don’t work - unless you are just talking about 1 pimple once in awhile.
The best, most effective treatments for actual acne require medication. My friend’s son, with very bad acne, had success with the Proactiv line.
My son had major success with the antibiotic Doxycycline. He took it for about 1 year. When my husband was a teen, he took tetracycline.
It is great you are looking for something - nowadays, there is no reason for a kid to suffer through the huge blow to the self esteem acne can cause.
tea tree oil applied to the skin (not diluted)
apply light moisturizer over it
you can also apply oil of oregano and he can also take the oil of oregano orally. I usually put 3 drops into an empty capsule and swallow it.
Garlic pills
These are all natural antibiotic and antiviral. They really really work.

Good acne medication?
December 10, 2008
No. If any of them seem to work, they work for a little while, then they stop working. I don’t know the answer. I’ve even gotten prescription lotions and pills. they don’t even work for long periods of time. Murad. You can get it at bath & body works, ulta and maybe even order online. It really works for me. If you buy it in a store though you can return it if it doesn’t work. My skin is pretty normal but when I do get a pimple it leaves a scar. My husband has really oily skin. It is working great for both of us. He does get one every now and then, he applys the spot treatment and it drys it out. The kit is like $30 and lasts a month. Tiny little jars but you only use a little. Try the natural approach! Probably you're immune to salicylic acid, which is in a lot of acne products, that are supposed to help! I've been through acne products too, and have any of them significantly helped? Not really. I'm trying more natural things now, like
Honey wash!

Good luck! Just do a lot of research on the internet, and hopefully you'll come across something that works =)
You could also try St. Ives Apricot Scrub.. I've read some good things about it
Maybe you're thinking a little too hard for products. Maybe the cure to your acne is right in front of you! Just do more research online. You'll come across something that will help!
Good luckPimples are caused by bacteria, clogged pores, and the inflammation that occurs when your body is trying to deal. I have had great success with taking an antibiotic like minocycline (designed for acne, costs $25 for 30 pills) along with washing with benzol peroxide. (Clean and Clear makes one face wash with benzol peroxide, read the ingredients because it has other products that doesn’t have it in it) For really stubborn pimples don’t squeeze because they will scar! You can get a shot of cortisol steroids injected into the pimple that will take down the inflammation from a good dermatologist. It costs me about $100 a pop though so I think your best bet is prevention with oral antibiotics and washing daily with benzol peroxide.
